A (Sort of a) Poem

"End of Innocence"

I dreamt we buried our childhood savior

My brother, sister, and I

Digging a small grave in loose garden soil

It was disturbingly easy

Trading memories about what he’d meant

Reliving fond moments

But all the while glancing over our shoulders

Muttering “hurry, hurry,”

Because the ones he was supposed to save us from,

They were still alive.
